I Scream, We Scream, We All Scream for Starscream!

I previously featured Hasbro’s Simon Flash and Bop It! XT from this year’s Time to Play Holiday Showcase.  Also in Hasbro’s holiday line-up is KRE-O , an exciting new brand that’s recently been released.  KRE-O provides builders ages 6 and up with the unique opportunity to enjoy popular Hasbro brands, like Transformers, in a construction play pattern by allowing two types of builds: create a robot then disassemble to build a vehicle and disassemble the vehicle to build a robot, impressively using all the same pieces in the set.  Most sets come complete with themed accessories and a poseable KREON mini-figure in robot or human form.  Hasbro designed KRE-O so that the bricks are compatible with most other brick-based construction sets on the market, allowing for additional freedom for creativity and play.

Starscream, a Decepticon  Air Commander, comes complete with more than 300 pieces, as well as two KREON mini-figures.  In vehicle mode, builders can open the jet’s canopy to fit a KREON mini-figure into the cockpit, blast off removable rockets and turbo thrusters, or use the retractable wheels to pretend they’re taking off the runway. Initially when I opened up the box, I thought it was going to be intimidating (the instruction booklet is over 70 pages!)  But after more careful review, the booklet provides instructions in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step process .  The manual is also complete with enlarged photos making it difficult to get pieces confused.  My 6-year old even commented, “I can do this!”  Starscream KRE-O is suggested for kids ages 8-14 and retails for $29.99.

 

Hasbro currently offers 12 KRE-O building sets featuring classic Transformers characters (such as Bumble Bee, Megatron, Optimus Prime and others) and include a variety of offerings from basic sets priced at approximately $7.99 to deluxe sets priced at approximately $59.99.  They are available at most major retailers nationwide, as well as HasbroToyShop.com.
