A Medley of Choices for Healthy School Snacks

Kid-tested, parent-approved Mott’s products make the perfect lunch accompaniment or afternoon snack for school.  My kids and I have always been a fan of the Healthy Harvest (no sugar added) and Mott’s Plus Sauces.  The variety of flavors is great (and tasty) and keeps the kids happy.  When I throw in an applesauce in their backpacks, they never complain.  And since I cannot monitor their selection for school lunch (please don’t judge – my kids prefer school lunch over a lunch packed from home!), I feel a little better knowing at least they are eating something wholesome as a snack.

Recently, I found out that Mott’s came out with yet another line of applesauces, Mott’s Medley Sauces which were inspired by their Mott’s Medleys Juice that launched in 2010.  The no sugar added Mott’s Medley applesauces are an excellent source of vitamin C and each 3.9 ounce container is 1 total fruit and veggie serving (provides 2/3 fruit and 1/3 vegetable serving per container. Current USDA Dietary Guidelines recommend a daily intake of 2 cups of fruit and 2-1/2 cups vegetables for a 2,000 calorie diet. 1 container = 1/2 cup. Source:  Mott’s) The Mott’s Medley applesauces are limited availability right now but will be offered nationwide by January 2012.  They are offered in 2 flavors: Cherry Berry and Peach Apple.

Mott’s is also offering their applesauces in easy, convenient pouches.  Each 3.2 ounce pouch is 40 calories (less than their competitors) and is perfect for on-the-go snacking (as well as long road trips!)  This is one snack that I do not have to worry about when my kids eat it in the car.  They love “drinking” their applesauces and I love that I don’t have to worry about peeling off a lid and bringing a spoon.  Like the Mott’s Medley Sauces, the Mott’s Snack and Go applesauces will be available nationwide January 2012.  The Snack and Go applesauces are offered in 2 no sugar added flavors: Original Apple and Strawberry.

Thanks, Mott’s, for continuing to offer products that keep both parents and kids happy!

I packed applesauce for Ariana too for her snack time. I buy the organic ones from Trader Joe’s

The squeeze pouches looks convenient. My daughter loves the squeeze pouches (baby food) when we need a snack on the go.

The Peach Apple does not, according to the ingredient list, contain any actual peach at all.
